Elections: Lagos CP deploys 30,000 operatives

....Assures Lagosians of water tight security

Ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday February 16,  2019, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu has deployed 30,000 personnel to various parts of the State to ensure uncompromised security. 

The Commissioner of Police who made this known on Wednesday said the 30,000 security operatives was drawn from the police and other law enforcement agencies in the state.

He noted that all personnel are expected to wear INEC identification tags, and secure the entire electoral process.

Speaking clearly on what is expected of the operatives,  Muazu said, “ The police being the lead agency in internal security management, will coordinate other security and law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of the electoral laws; the preservation of law and order; as well as safety and security of human and material resources deployed for the elections.”

The State Police Boss also disclosed that there will be a joint operations room and rolled out phone numbers for distress calls.

“In addition, the command has set up a joint operations room with the following dedicated lines through which members of the public can draw the attention of the police to distress situations or any untoward event in their locality.

“ The numbers are: Control 1: 08127155132 and 07035068242

Control 2: 08127155150 and 08065154338

Control 3: 08127155071 and 08063299264.”

The CP  further assured Lagosians of adequate security before, during and after the elections. He encouraged residents of the state to come out without fear of intimidation and exercise their franchise.

In his statement, the  CP warned political thugs and other miscreants not to make any attempt to disrupt the electoral process as the command will deal decisively with anyone who breaches or  attempts to breach the public peace.
