The Lagos State Police Command said a total of 23 suspects were arrested for various electoral offences in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu who made this known on Saturday evening at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja said one locally pistol was also recovered from the suspects.
Giving an overview of the security situation during the elections, Muazu said no death was recorded in the state contrary to reports been peddled on social media.
He said the election had been generally peaceful except for the few breach of peace. “ At Okota, few polling units were attacked. Some hoodlums went there when election was ongoing and disrupted the process.
“We heard the falsehood that people were killed but we went there and we did not see any corpse. Also the DPO did not see anyone that was killed.
“In Okota, nine suspects were arrested. They came in motorcycles and 10 of the motorcycles were recovered. As you know, Okota is a very large area and we cannot deploy armed policemen to polling units. The armed policemen were far off. That was why the hoodlums were able to strike and fled before armed policemen could get there.
“It is indeed a breach of the restriction order. I wonder where they came from but the case is under investigation and we will find out where they came from.
Speaking further on the arrests made, the Commissiner of Police said nine suspects were also arrested at Somolu.
“ A stop and search team at the Stadium area in Surulere arrested two suspects and recovered a locally made pistol.
“We did not know where they were going to but investigation will establish that. At Alakara, three suspects were arrested. No arrest was made at Epe, but at Ijora, there was information some persons wanted to disrupt the election, we quickly controlled the situation,” he said.
