Election postponement: Buhari not in charge – Bode George

…INEC's decision may lead to voter apathy - Banire

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, has said the postponement of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections was an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari was not in control of affairs in the country.

He also said that the postponement might not be unconnected with the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to rig the election in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a telephone conversation with The Nigerian Xpress in Lagos at the weekend, Chief George lambasted the president for abdicating in his responsibilities, noting that the current situation was a justification of what the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, said about her husband.

Justifying his claim that President Buhari was not in charge, the PDP chieftain said the president was already in Daura for the election, only for INEC to announce the postponement within hours of the election.

“Strategically, they might have failed in their attempt to rig the election. It’s a charade. It’s disheartening. We should not be in this position in the 21st century. Whatever it is, let the will of the people prevail. This is not a pariah state,” Chief George said.

The PDP chieftain denied that the PDP had also done similar things in the past when it was in power, saying what happened then was based on verifiable security reports and was not on the eve of the election.

George alleged that there might have been attempt to compromise the election by some cabals, who were bent on throwing the country into crisis.
