Elders intervene in Iwo crisis

Razaq Bamidele

Elders in Iwo, Osun State, have decided to step into the crisis that led to commotion at the Muslim praying ground, on Tuesday, during the Eid-el-Fitr Sallah prayer with a view to resolving it amicably.

Our correspondent gathered that eminent personalities in the ancient city have put heads together to reach out to the monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Adewale, Telu 1, and the other parties in the sad development for amicable solution of the crisis.

It was learnt that notable among the elders seeking an end to the crisis are the Asiwaju of Iwoland, who was a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, Chief Adedeji Gbadegesin and a veteran journalist and former Chairman, Osun State Pilgrim Welfare Board (Muslim Section), Alhaji Liad Tella, who is also the Asiwaju Musulumi of Iwoland.

But when contacted on telephone midnight Tuesday, Tella only volunteered that, “I observed the Sallah prayer in Abuja and not at Iwo.”

However, unconfirmed report has it that, efforts were in top gear to secure bail of those in police custody over the matter.
