Kehinde Adewole, Ado Ekiti
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and his predecessor, Ayo Fayose, have commiserated with the people of Iworoko-Ekiti over last Saturday’s accident in the town which resulted in the death of 12 people.
Governor Fayemi, who had earlier directed the deputy governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, to pay a condolence visit to the community, on Sunday morning, said in a statement that he was saddened and devastated by the news of the fatal accident.
While noting that many lives were lost to the recklessness of many trailer drivers, he said government might be compelled to re-introduce some old laws and previous arrangements to deal with the menace.
Governor Fayemi urged the community leaders and families of the victims of the accident to remain calm even as “we collectively mourn the death of our beloved ones in the unfortunate incident.”
The Governor said, “This is a huge tragedy and a painful experience, not only for the families of the victims but for all of us.

“We share with the people of Iworoko and families of the victims the pain and sorrow of the unfortunate development.
“Our prayer is that God will be with you during this painful period.
“Government will also look at areas of support with a view to ameliorating the pains”.
In the same vein, immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has also commiserated with families of victims calling for prayers to avert incessant deaths in the State.
Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement that Fayose, described the number of lives lost in the state in the last three months as alarming.
Addressing the people, the former governor promised to assist the victims in his own little way, calling on well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid.
“I commiserate with Kabiyesi and the entire people of Iworoko Ekiti for this tragedy. May God console the families of those who died and heal the injured,” he said.
He called for prayers to avert further loss of lives in the state, saying; “The rate at which lives are being lost in Ekiti now is worrisome. I think it is spiritual and we must seek the face of the Lord for spiritual cleansing of our land.
