Ebonyi State Government has approved the setting up of a Post COVID-19 Economic Committee to plan the economic potentials of the state with emphasis on driving the initiative the state government on zero economy.
The Secretary to the State Government Dr. Kenneth Ugballa, made the disclosure on Friday during a joint media briefing on the outcome of the state Executive Council meeting with the Commissioner for Information/Orientation Barrister Uchena Orji and that of Agriculture Chief Ogodo Ali Moment.
He said that the essence of the Committee was to ensure Economic sustainability of the state on post COVID-19 era.
“The Committee has six months to work and drive the economy of the state on Post COVID-19 era, they are to tackle the challenges of the state in the years ahead”
“They are to make sure that Ebonyians do not suffer after COVID-19 era”
The SSG outlined the various committees to include Small and Medium Enterprise /Job Creation. Agriculture, Industry, Trade. Solid Mineral Development , International Market, Committee on completion of Teaching hospital, Information and Communication Technology and Estate Development.
Dr. Ugballa said that the state Executive Council has directed the Deputy Governor to set up a 5-man Committee to investigate the alleged Human Rights Violation at Amasiri community in Afikpo North Local Government Area where a Clergy man was tortured by aggrieved youths of the area.
“The Committee is mandated to unravel the remote and immediate cause and Acts of Human Rights Violation on the matter.
Contributing the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation Barrister Uchena Orji, said that the state government resolved to pursue the completion of critical on-going projects embarked upon by the government including the Airport Project, Stadium, Dualisation of a section of Enugu-Abakaliki Federal Highways and Afikpo- Abakaliki Federal road among others .
The Commissioner disclosed that the state Executive Council equally approved N259 million ?for the funding of ongoing Airport Project and commended the stakeholders of the area for their support.
Earlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Agriculture Chief Ogodo Ali Nomeh, reiterated the state government commitment to boost incentives for the assessing of agricultural loans by farmers.
Chief Nomeh said that the government has acquired 500 hectares of land in every local government area of the state to enable political office holders access land for Agriculture.
