Ebonyi govt. vows to publish comprehensive list of cultists

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information/Orientation, Dr. Emmanuel Onwe, has declared that the state government would soon publish a comprehensive list of cultists operating in the state.

Dr. Onwe made the declaration, in Abakaliki, the state capital, on Monday, while addressing media practitioners in a joint press conference with his counterpart in Health Ministry, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, on the outcome of the state’s Executive Council meeting.

The commissioner reiterated that the Government has in its custody the list of cultists members which would be made public.

He said that the government frowns on the activities of cultists among students, lecturers, public appointees, some of whom are members of cultists this various sectors are represented in cultism.

“Today Government of Ebonyi State has comprehensive list of cultist members, the list to be published to the public in few months.

“Government resolution to fight them, crush them, it is an avenue that creates people that have no value for life.”

Commissioner Onwe recalled the origin of Confraternity in the country since the days of Nobel Laurette Professor Wole Soyinka at the University of Ibadan in 1948, maintaining that it was formed to take advantage of students at that time.

Earlier in his presentation, the Commissioner for Health Dr. Daniel Umezurike, said  that the Government has approved the sum of N500 million for the State University and the State College of Education located in Ikwo Local Government Area.

He disclosed that the State College of Education Ikwo has been affiliated to the State varsity and has been made a degree awarding institution.

“In 2012 there was a merger of the Federal Medical Center Abakaliki and the State University Teaching Hospital to form Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, we still have our students in EBSU, the government has to move our students to other locations.”
