Ebonyi govt. approves Oct. 5 for schools resumption

The Ebonyi State Government, on Thursday, approved October 3, 2020, for the re-opening of all schools in the state comprising primary, secondary and tertiary institutions on the account of the closure following the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic.

Commissioner for Education in the state, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima, made the disclosure at the Government House, in Abakaliki, while briefing newsmen at the end of the State Executive Council meeting.

He emphasised that there would be staggering of classes resumption in line with COVID-19 protocols stipulated by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

The commissioner reiterated that Nursery, Crèche will not reopen until 2021, stating that details of modalities for the reopening will be unveiled in the coming days.

“There will be staggering of schools in two sessions morning (8:00a.m -12:00p.m), afternoon 12.15-4.15p.m) in order to maintain Social Distancing.”

It would be recalled that schools in Ebonyi State were shut down, in March, this year, following the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

However, Exit Classes in secondary schools resumed in August 2020 for participation in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
