As many Nigerians continue to express various views over the recent appointment of former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, as assistant coach of the national team, ex- international, Peter Nieketen, has faulted the decision, describing it as evidence of confusion in the glass house.
Niekieten who holds a UEFA and CAF Grade B coaching certificate, described Yobo’s appointment as a disrespect to the country’s coaches even as he questioned the criteria NFF used in choosing a person who does not have a coaching experience to occupy such an important position.
“It’s very disheartening that the NFF neglected all the qualified coaches in the country to appoint Joseph Yobo as an assistant coach of the national team when there are many qualified coaches who are tested that can do the job well,” began the former Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri and Julius Berger of Lagos player.

‘I’m not saying that Yobo as a Nigerian is not qualified to be appointed to any position but I am particularly concerned about his experience because the truth of the matter is that he does not have a coaching experience and the action of the football house is a slight on Nigeria coaches. It’s also an indication that those at the glass house are confused and do not have anything to offer Nigerian football.
“I believe there are other roles Yobo could have been given to play until he gets the required experience to be made a coach of the national team and I am sure those at the NFF are aware they’ve made the wrong decision,” he stressed.
On Amokachi, Nieketen who was a member of Nigeria U-20 team to Chile 1987 World Youth championship, was of the opinion that having been in the coaching crew of the Super Eagles under late Stephen Keshi whom he served as his assistant, it would have been better to appoint Amokachi as assistant coach of the national team where his services will be more felt, instead of tipping him for the position of Technical Director.
The one time AS Donanes and ASMO FC of Gabon player on the other hand stated that it will be better for the NFF to allow Amokachi concentrate on his role as Nigeria’s football ambassador where he will have the opportunity to market Nigerian football to the world.
