The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is set to auction 257 seized vehicles and 39 other items in the second round of its e-auction exercise taking place today.
The e-auction is an online bidding process unlike the former physical system and is aimed at engendering transparency while also reducing human contacts in the process.
NCS recently reintroduced e-auction for the disposal of overtime cargoes at the nation’s ports and border posts.

The first of the reintroduced e-auction was carried out a week ago where 86 vehicles were won by bidders.
The process, according to the Customs Command, would hold on Tuesdays, advising interested members of the public to avail themselves of the opportunity to purchase needed items.
According to a post on the Customs e-auction website, 1,809 potential bidders have so far registered to bid for the seized items today.
The online bidding exercise will hold from 12noon to 6:00p.m.
Last week, 1,099 applicants registered for the 1,137 bids.
There had been earlier complaints by bidders of difficulty in accessing the website, but the Customs said such hiccups were associated with initial efforts to fine-tune the process, assuring that subsequent auctions will be hitch free.
