The Presidency has claimed that a trending video in which President Bola Tinubu pleaded with Nigerians for more patience is old.
According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the president on Information and Strategy, Tinubu has not made any other address since his national broadcast to Nigerians on Sunday.
Onanuga said the video was from a broadcast the president made in 2023.
“Trending video of President Tinubu is an old video,” he wrote on X.
“A trending video of President Tinubu which came out on Wednesday is not a new video. It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year.
“President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.”
However, in the now controversial video, which was posted on Tinubu and the Presidency’s X and Instagram handles on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 3:29 pm and 3:30 pm, respectively, the president pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with his administration, while giving assurance that the country is transitioning from darkness to dawn.
He acknowledged the ongoing hardship, caused by the fuel subsidy removal and the floating of the naira.
He also blamed this on an “avoidable lag” between the subsidy removal and his helpful plans for the country, which worsened the situation.
Onanuga’s post has set tongues wagging as many wonder at the confusion in the camp of the president’s media aides, as this is not the first time they would be countering one another publicly.
