A Non- Governmental Organisation, NGO, the Dope Divas has donated food stuff and cash worth thousands of naira to the less privileged as part of activities marking its sixth year anniversary.
The group visited various markets in Lagos dressed in their branded shirts and giving out cash to the market women and men.
According to the founder of the group, Mimi Raman popularly called Goddess by her friends, the donations were a collective effort of each member of the group who realised the importance of giving back to the society as part of their service to humanity.
“ It’s our Dope Divas 6th anniversary. We decided to donate as a group and reach out to these elderly people selling small things in the market as well as hawkers.
We taxed ourselves and contributed cash which we gave out. We gave out foodstuffs too. This is our little way of saying we identify with the less privileged in the society,” Mimi said.
She added: “ This is not the first time we would be giving out things like this. We have been doing this for the past few years. The economic situation in the country is biting hard. People are finding it hard to eat. Things are difficult. So we decided to give out what we have and share with the people and put a smile on their faces.”
She urged the government to do more in alleviating the suffering of the people, and called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Dope Divas by donating to the needy.
Mimi thanked all members of the group for their dedication to the realization of the dreams and visions of the group, and for donating willingly to its course over the years.
The donation was not the first to be done by the group. Dope Divas had in the past visited schools to donate writing materials. It had also visited orphanages to donate to the motherless children as well as the old people’s home.
Every year, the group celebrates girl child by donating sanitary pads, clothes among others to young female school children.
It also marks women’s day by organising educative programmes and empowering
young women through donation of skill materials and equipment to them.
Aside from Lagos, Dope Divas also has members in other states of the federation.
