The Nigeria Police have debunked reports that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, had ordered the reinstatement of the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), saying that arm of the Force is gone for good.
In a statement in Abuja, Force spokesman, CP Frank Mba, said: “The Force wishes to emphasise that there is no plan whatsoever to bring back the disbanded SARS. SARS is gone for good and will not resurrect under any guise whatsoever.”
He explained that the Force had since re-organised its operational structure to fill the vacuum created by disbanded SARS and has remained focused on efforts at deepening reforms to ensure that it is more efficient, effective, technology-driven, humane and rule of law compliant.
Mba urged the general public to ignore the report, say describing it as a ploy to misinform the public.
