DEPOWA President distributes palliatives to Widows of fallen heroes

President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) Mrs. Oghogho G. Musa has distributed palliatives to wives of fallen heroes of the Armed Forces.

 

 

 

The DEPOWA president who was on a visit to the 6 Division Nigerian Army, distributed the palliatives yesterday, at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt.

Mrs. Musa explained that as part of activities lined up for the Armed Forces celebration and Remembrance Day 2024, in the main headquarters in conjunction with the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), “we think is appropriate to remember our heroes and give them support”.

 

 

 

She expressed that the widows have inspired the military officers to continue the legacy of their husbands and carry on the mission of keeping Nigeria safe and united.

 

 

 

 

“They are the wives of our gallant soldiers and men who paid the supreme price while serving our dear country Nigeria.

 

 

 

“The armed forces of Nigeria shall never forget your husbands sacrifice. Let me sincerely thank the mother of this nation, the distinguished Senator Olufemi Tinubu, the first lady of the federal republic of Nigeria for her Renewed Hope initiative that is lifting women out of poverty and we employ you all to be part of this patriot”.

 

 

 

In his remarks,  Rear Admiral Ibrahim Gewu, Chief of Defence, Civil Military Relations, said the initiative was not just providing material assistance but a symbol of gratitude and solidarity. “Each package we distribute is a total appreciation for sacrifices rendered by our fallen heroes and their families”.

 

 

 

He said “In this challenging times, it is essential that we extend our support to those who bear the weight of our of our heroes absence, their wives left behind to navigate last journey without their beloved partners. And today, we come together to distribute these items to the resilience women, acknowledging their sacrifice”.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Folake Lasisi, said “We want to feel sense of belonging and because of that there are things that are necessary and that is our children. There are some of them that are not getting their educational sponsorship. We want you look at it and do something about it”.

 

 

 

 

She stressed “Apart from this, when you give there is a tendency that you will ask for more. We want to ask for more because this event is being organised in remembrance of the fallen heroes and that is why we are here.

 

 

 

“I am standing to thank her (Mrs Musa) for coming here from far away to come and give us these palliatives and to make us smile. It’s a very good thing that you have come to do and God will reward awesomely for doing it”.

 

 

 

 

“I am also standing here on behalf of the victims widows of plane clash of September 26, 1992. We the women have not been given our entitlements after 31 years. We should be remembered and they should review it. Some of us, children have died, but please take this back to our mother, the mother of the nation so that the nation and the military will attend to our matter.

 

 

 

“We will want you to help us to take our massage back to the mother of the nation, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu and the armed forces, that there are things that are so dear to us. We want to feel that sense of belonging even though our husbands are no longer there, we want to feel that we are still in your midst”, Mrs. Lasisi added.
