DELSUTH management faults news report

Godwin Udoh, Asaba

The Management of DELSUTH, led by Dr. Onome Ogueh,  has frowned at the news item on the Punch Newspapers of 6th April, 2020,  titled: DELSUTH Doctors lament shortage of facemasks, others.

The Management in their response, maintained  that despite the worldwide shortage of PPE’s, DELSUTH,  with the support of Delta State Government has had constant supply of face masks, gloves, hand sanitizers and other personal protective equipment which they  have consistently made available for use by DELSUTH staff during this period.

It was gathered that, the management has also developed a screening protocol for the COVID-19 in DELSUTH which has been followed strictly with triage centers established at all clinics /ward entrances as well as the main hospital gate  to ensure that suspected cases are identified whilst making sure that some form of clinical services delivery continues within the hospital.

It was reportedly that members frowned at management’s delay in closing all outpatient clinics in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic as a precautionary measure to forestall exposure of multiple members of staff to the ravaging infectious viral disease.

“It was also observed that there is inadequacy of the recommended face masks and PPEs needed as precautionary protocols against the disease. There is also no conclusive plan for life insurance or compensatory measures for frontline staff for the management of this globally dreaded disease.

The resident doctors urged DELSUTH management to shut down all outpatient clinics pending when a decline was recorded in the incident cases of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

The team also stated that  management is aware that the State Government is planning remuneration for all staff involved in the COVID- 19 response team.

Dr Ogueh said, the management is also in the process of discussing with an insurance company to provide cover for staff involved in the COVID- 19 response team,  adding that all hands must  be on deck at this critical period and we are counting on all members of staff to support management in this process.
