CSOs trash corruption allegations against Ag. AGF, Anamekwe Nwabuoku

Some civil society groups have risen in defence of the newly appointed acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Anamekwe Nwabuoku, and exonerated him of corruption allegations.

Operating under the aegis of Coalition Of Civil Society Organizations In Nigerian, COCSON, the group accused purveyors of the allegations of peddling falsehood.

Some faceless media houses had alleged that Anamekwe, who was recently appointed by the Federal Government to the office of the AGF, following the arrest the arrest of the substantive AGF, Ahmed Idris, by the EFCC over alleged N80 billion fraud, is also bring investigated by the anti-graft agency in connection to alleged massive corruption allegations.

Idris was also consequently suspended from office hence Anamaekwe appointment in acting capacity while Idris is bring investigated.

The reports claimed that Anamaekwe had overpaid himself while serving in MDAs and alsoe allegedly acquired some properties fraudulently, which the EFCC had recovered.

However, COCSON dismissed the allegations as unfounded.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, the Director of Administration of COCSON, Alhaji Tijani Ali Danjuma, said the reports were baseless.

He described Anamaekwe as a well accomplished civil servant without any corruption or fraudulent charges against him anywhere.

“While he was the Director of Finance and Accounts, DFA, at the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Nwabuoku never enriched himself with internal security funds as widely speculated by media reports,” Danjuma said.

“Proven track records from the Defense ministry have shown that Mr. Nwabuoku never compromised The Government Integrated Financial Management System, GIFMIS, to steal the salaries of Federal Government’s staff, as alleged.

“We the Coalition Of Civil Society Organizations In Nigerian (COCSON) applaud the emergence of the new Accountant General of the Federation, Anamekwe Nwabuoku and we will continue to support him to achieve greater heights in all his endeavors.

“Mr. Anamekwe Nwabuoku is the right square peg in the square hole and that people trying to malign him won’t succeed with their cheap publications which were drafted to blackmail him and to dent his proven track records.

“This claim is false, malicious and fraudulent and we will not allow this act go unpunished as we will deploy every legal means to ensure that these miscreants are brought to book.”
