Crude oil explosion kills dozens in Rivers

Dozens of people, including women, are feared dead after an explosion at a crude oil tapping point in Rumuekpe, Emuoha Local Government Area, Rivers State.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 2 a.m, on Friday, when one of the buses carrying crude oil caught fire while attempting to navigate to an illegal refining point in the area.

An environmentalist and Executive Director of the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre, Fyneface Dumnamene, confirmed the incident.

He said that he news of the incident through its ‘Crude oil spill alert response system’.

Spokesperson of the state’s Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, however, confirmed the incident saying, “The Divisional Police Officer is already on his way to the scene.”
