Crisis looms in Plateau as sacked lawmakers vow to return to Assembly Tuesday 

The sacked 16 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have vowed to attend plenary in Tuesday in spite of their sack by the Appeal Court.

 

 

 

 

The elections of the affected lawmakers were nullified by the appellate court on the grounds that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, whose platform they contested the election and were returned as winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, lacked structure in the state.

However, the lawmakers announced their intentions to return to the House on Monday in a press briefing in Jos, the state capital.

 

 

 

 

According to their leader, Ishaku Maren, the Supreme Court judgment, which validated the election of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, had also qualified them to remain members of the Assembly and so, they would be resuming at the House on Tuesday when the Assembly is expected to reconvene after a the two-month recess.
