Crime: Group commends Buhari for devising installation of CCTV on highways

Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDC), an NGO on Thursday commended President Muhammadu Buhari for devising installation of Closed-circuit Television (CCTV) on Nigerian highways.

Chief Ugochukwu Nnam, President of the Group, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that such idea would permanently eliminate crime wave in the country.

Nnam, who described the idea as “classical” said President Buhari had risen to the occasion.

“President Buhari has proved his security ingenuity as a former army general with this plan.

“I believe if this noble idea is implemented, lingering security challenges and crimes would be history,” he said.

The ILDC boss called on contractors that would handle the project to be above board in order not to sabotage the President’s idea.

Nnam said that such idea was desirable in a country such as Nigeria where criminals and urchins had nearly taken over the highways.

According to him, this will go a long way in curtailing crime at least to the minimal level on our roads especially.

He said that countries such as China, Britain and other developed climes had used it to fight crimes in their territories.

Nnam, however, urged Nigerians to support Buhari, whose mastery in security strategies would catapult the country to the next level.

NAN reports that Buhari, on Wednesday said that his administration would install CCTVs on the highways and other strategic locations.

He noted that the CCTV would help to curtail and expose crimes in the country especially on the highways. (NAN)
