COWLSO 2023: Support each other, build the nation – First Lady urges women

Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, charged women to support one another and strive towards building a nation where every woman can truly contribute to its prosperity and progress.
The First Lady spoke as the Guest of Honour when declaring open the three day 23rd edition of the annual National Women Conference, organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State officials with the theme ‘Unleash Your Potential’, held in Lagos.
Remi Tinubu said that women are naturally empowered to reshape the nation and must leverage on their strength to exhibit potential inherent in them optimally, adding that women have potential that if appropriately unleashed could transform the society.

“We must work together, collaborate, and support one another to ensure that every woman in Nigeria has the tools and opportunities to reach her full potential,” she said.
According to her, women have the power to ‘shape the future, to be leaders, to be innovators, to be caregivers, and to be agents of positive change’
However, she said for them to fully reach their potential, they must continue to break down barriers that limit their progress, challenge stereotypes, and foster an environment of equal opportunity for all.
She mentioned education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and gender equity as essential pillars that can enable them ‘ to unleash our potential.’ She further said women should not be concerned about personal success alone but also about uplifting their families, communities, and the nation as a whole.

The host governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu thanked all the past leaders of COWLSO who have kept the conference going for 23 years, beginning with the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

The governor said her vision was to create a platform that will bring women together to discuss and develop ideas and solutions that will help to place them at the centre of national development.

Sanwo-Olu urged women to make themselves ready to take their rightful place in national development. He expressed his administration’s commitment to the vision set forth by COWLSO, promising to continue creating an environment that nurtures and supports the realization of every individual’s potential.

He said his administration has continued to contribute to the promotion of the ideals and objectives that are transforming the State and the lives of the citizens.

Governor Sanwo-Olu maintained that many interventions of COWLSO in critical sectors such as health, education, environment, and youth development are impacting positively on the lives of Lagosians.
The Chairperson of COWLSO, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu mentioned that the conference has been inspiring with records of landmark interventions that have been in the overall interest of women.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the conference is an avenue through which the wives of the officials of the state government promote child healthcare and education, empower women to discover their hidden treasures, and protect our environment, among others.
In attendance on the first day of the conference were First lLadies of Imo, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, and Kwara States.
Wife of the Senate President, Ekaette Akpabio who represented her husband,, Godswill Akpabio at the COWLSO event, also urged women to be home builders.
