Donald Trump, President of the United States on Saturday said his government was weighing possibilities about the World Health Organisation (WHO), including paying about 10 per cent of its previous contribution.
Trump hinted in a tweet though that nothing was concrete yet, as the freeze on US funding for the global health agency, which he suspended on April 14, remained.
Trump had then accused the WHO of encouraging China’s “disinformation” about the COVID-19 outbreak but officials of the world health body denied the allegation.
Before the suspension of its contribution, the US was the WHO’s biggest donor.
Fox News, citing a draft letter, reported late on Friday that Trump was set to restore partial funding to the WHO, matching China’s assessed contribution, which will be about one-tenth of its previous funding amount of about 400 million dollars per year.
