COVID-19: Tension as Delta record first death

Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has confirmed the death of the second case of COVID-19 in the via his verified Twitter handle, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to two.

Okowa said, “I have just been informed of another case of COVID-19 in Delta State and that, the person was taken to one of the health facilities with difficult in breathing, he pass on while trying to minister professional medication.

Okowa said the deceased who confirmed to have tested positive to the pandemic had underlying health challenges, and he (deceased) had visited Lagos in the past two weeks.

“The individual in question, had underlying health issues and had visited Lagos State in the past two weeks.

“The patient presented himself late to one of our hospitals with severe symptoms including difficulty in breathing and was given the necessary attention by healthcare professionals. Shortly after the specimen was taken, he passed away. However, his test results came back positive today.”

..The governor further noted that has commenced contact tracing of the deceased case to mitigate the spread of the virus in the state.

“In order to mitigate against the spread of the virus, we are fast-tracking our contact tracing to ensure that all those that came in contact with the deceased patient are properly isolated and tested immediately.

“Again, it is important that as we work to protect the citizens and residents of our state, families and friends of individuals that are exhibiting the primary symptoms of the #COVID-19 virus, do not keep it from the authorities. If you see something; say something.

“For the doubting Thomases, COVID-19 is real; it is not for the rich or the poor; it could affect anybody and I will appreciate it if all Deltans would have this at the back of their minds that anybody and everybody is vulnerable—both the old and the young are vulnerable”.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is yet to announce the case.
