Former Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rev. Tor Uja, has thrown his weight behind the closure of Churches, saying preventive measures were better than cure which was yet to be found.
Uja said in a statement issued in Makurdi that restriction on Church activities was in the best interest of the people because of the need for them to maintain social distancing.
The former commissioner for information in Benue state stated further that holding Church services in homes where smaller number of people would be in attendance was better.
He said since the restriction started, he has been holding Church services in his house in order to maintain social distancing as required by the government and heath experts.

According to him, those opposing the restriction should consider the consequences of their actions. He stressed that losing any number of the faithful to COVID-19 was not a thing to contemplate because after the lockdown, normal Church activities would resume.
He urged the clergy to look at the the other side of the pandemic which he described was coming at a time that many nations did not expect. Pointing out that there has been so much loss of human lives and economic setback.
It would be recalled that the Benue state government through its COVID-19 Action Committee placed two weeks restrictions on markets, large gathering, unnecessary movements within and outside the state, overloading, dusk to dawn curfew placed on the entire state and the use of soap and water as well as hand sanitisers and face masks as the case may be.
