COVID-19: Oba of Benin reels out palliative packages to journalists

Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has doled out palliative packages to members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Edo State, to cushion the effects of the sit-at-home order.

Items distributed are 50 bags of rice, 50 bags of beans, 50 cartoons of Indomie noodles and hand sanitisers.

Spoke person for the monarch, Chief Eduwu Akhator, the Obasogie of Benin, who led other palace chiefs and functionaries to delivered the items to the premises of the NUJ, said the monarch decided to kick start palliative packages to the seven local councils of Edo South with the journalists as a source of encouragement to race up with the challenges of the present moment.

“The Oba has provided for what will go through those who are really vulnerable, the handicap and the needy at a point to take off. The men and women of the Fourth Estate of the Realm cannot be undermined.

“The Oba of Benin on this special occasion of his continue support, pledged and promise he gave two days ago felt as a father, a social exponent, custodian of culture and tradition that what happen is unfortunate and at the same time the Oba cannot mourn.

He said the Oba for saw the COVID-19 era when he called for prayers earlier in the year.

“Omo ‘N’ Oba saw it a visionary and as  a visionary he saw it that it  was coming and requested for fast. We fasted for some days.

” I pray God Almighty that what has happen will not have any effect on Benin. The Oba want you people to remember that charity begins at home. If your home is orderly and environment is clean, your home will be sanitized”

Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State, Sir Roland Osakwue, who thanked the monarch for the gesture, promised to ensure even and fair distribution of the food items to members of the Union.
