COVID 19: No containment option than adherence to govt’s directives – Olokoba

Razaq Bamidele

An activist and President, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), Comrade Razaq Olokoba, has warned that there is no alternative to containing the spread of the deadly COVID-19 than strict obedience to the preventive directives spelt out to the populace by the government.

Worried by the lackadaisical attitude of the Lagos residents towards the temporary succour granted the people from the lockdown, Olokoba asserted that the only therapy to stay safe and alive is to stay indoors always when there is no urgent need to venture out to the streets.

According to him, it is sad and disturbing to see the people the government is trying to protect go against the government’s advice about their survival, lamenting that the good gestures of the authorities are not being reciprocated as expected.

The concerned activist and public commentator admitted that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, along with his team of eminent personalities has consistently done the needful for the welfare of his people, appealing that his efforts should not be allowed to be in vain.

While regretting that, the news of the increase in the number of victims every day, Olokoba said the development is traumatising, stressing that the best option to deal with the virus is to obey the government and do the needful.

He wondered why it is so difficult for the people to obey simple instructions like keeping Social Distancing, wearing of face cover, washing of hands, keeping away from crowd and observing normal hygienic routines for the sake of our survival and staying alive!

Against this backdrop, the youth leader is of the strong conviction that, “Our frontline officer-Sanwo-Olu, should be given due respect, maximum support, required encouragement and due commendation for doing a Yeoman Job,” warning against any attitude that could drag the hands of the clock backward.

“The people undergoing treatment should not take their understandably anxiety too far to undermine the government’s set objectives,” Olokoba appealed, reminding that, it is important to cooperate if any result would be achieved.

The CDG boss however chided members of the opposition, who he observed were trying to politicise  the epidemic with the view of turning it to a tool of damaging criticism and blackmail to run the government down, reminding them that, their attitude is not hurting the government but rather hurting the good people of Lagos.

Concluding, Olokoba therefore call on all the willing donors to make Lagos State a priority, while strongly feeling that the Federal should also provide all the necessary support for the state to ensure that the Governor has succour and relief for his tireless efforts towards a safe society.
