Doctor Allison Amarachukwu Doren is the doctor who diagnosed Nigeria’s Coronavirus index on the Italian, in February.

Speaking to BBC Igbo, Amarachi said she suspected that the Italian, whose identity has remained a mystery, had the virus when he complained of high fever, headaches and fatigue.

According to her, she reported the case to her boss who then contacted the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Dr. Doren said she became afraid when it was confirmed that the Italian had Coronavirus which made her go into isolation and did what people who have contact with COVID-19 patients do.

She said since that day, a lot of people have been thanking her since for the diagnosis.

Nigeria’s index case was confirmed on February 27 on an Italian who came into Nigeria via KLM Airlines.

To date, the country has recorded over 5,000 cases of Coronavirus, 147 deaths and over a thousand recoveries.

This week, the World Health Organisation (WHO) sounded the alarm that the virus may become endemic as efforts are on to find a cure or vaccine for the virus.

WHO also said it has engaged over 70 herbal medicine practitioners who claim to have found a cure for the virus.

Madagascar has been in the news with a reported herbal medicine, COVID Organics, which they claim is potent enough to flush out the virus.

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 said Nigeria has taken delivery of Madagascar medicine which was gifted to the country free of charge.
