COVID-19: Ita-Giwa endorses Ayade’s ‘no masks, no movement’ initiative

Prominent politician and socialite, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has thrown her weight behind the ‘no mask, no movement’ initiative of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State in preventing the spread of coronavirus.

Ita-Giwa in a statement she personally signed and issued in Calabar commended Governor Ayade for being innovative and proactive in the fight against COVID-19.

She described the ‘no mask, no movement’ policy as the most practical and effective way of stopping person-to-person infection.

While acknowledging the various other measures being adopted in the country to contain the virus, she said the Cross River State approach appears the most effective way of tackling the pandemic.

“Since the onset of the novel coronavirus also known as COVID-19 pandemic, a number of solutions to stop the spread of the dreaded virus have been proffered. While I appreciate many of the measures adopted to level the curve of the virus, I must publicly endorse the “No Mask, No Movement” initiative of the Cross River State Government as championed by the state governor Prof. Ben Ayade,” she stated.

She said she considers the initiative as “a practical and effective measure to stop person to person infections. The mask covers the mouth and nose thereby preventing an infected person from dispersing the virus via body fluids expelled through the mouth and nasal passage while at the same time protecting the uninfected.”

She commended the governor “for this innovative and proactive initiative,” and called on the people of the state to “whole heartedly embrace the ‘No Mask, No Movement’ initiative and make it a practical reality of our day to day lives for the period of this pandemic.”
