COVID-19: Germany to evacuate citizens from Nigeria

The German Mission in Nigeria said it would airlift its citizens wishing to leave Nigeria amid the Coronavirus outbreak.

The Mission is collating list of interested nationals and has asked them to fill forms on its website.

“Due to the extraordinary circumstances with regard to COVID-19, temporary entry restrictions were decided for Germany and international air traffic to and from Nigeria until April 23.

“Some compatriots and their family members were able to leave Nigeria before the above measures were introduced.

“The German embassy in Abuja and the German consulate general in Lagos want to determine as reliably as possible the number of German compatriots and their family members who are still in Nigeria and are interested in returning to Germany.”

According to Worldometers, Germany currently has over 60,000 cases and more than 500 deaths.

Finance Minister of Germany’s Hesse State, Thomas Schaefer, was said to have committed suicide.

Concerns over Coronavirus and the effect on the economy was linked to his death.

France and Israel have evacuated some nationals from Nigeria and the United States is reportedly planning same.

Nigeria currently has over 110 cases, with more cases in Lagos and Abuja.
