COVID-19: Ebonyi Govt. deploys 1,000 Health Workers to Communities for sensitisation/awareness campaign on prevention of COVID-19 scourge

Ebonyi State Government has deployed over 1,000 Health workers serving in the 13 local Government Areas to the 141 communities in the state to commence enlightenment campaign on the prevention of the dreaded coronavirus ravaging the world.
Addressing participants at the training workshop held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Center Abakaliki on Saturday, the State Commissioner for Grants and Donor Agency who doubles as a member of the Committee on Prevention of CoronaVirus Disease, Dr. Sunday Nwangele urged them to take the campaign to all the citizenry of the state .
“This training of health workers on basic precautionary measures is vital to prevent the virus from entering the state, prepare the health workers on the task ahead “
The Commissioner said that the state government organised the training of the health workers to enable them take the campaign to all nooks and crannies of the state insisting that such initiative would go a long way in creating public awareness on the menace of the epidemics.
Dr. Nwangele highlighted such tips to include regular washing of hands, covering ones mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with flexed elbow, avoid close contact when experiencing cough and fever, and to seek medical care when affected with fever and cough respectively.

He recommended other precautionary measures to include improving personal and environmental hygiene, regular hand washing , use of Sanitizers, usage of medical mask to cover mouth and nose especially in crowded events.
The training tagged “Train the trainers workshop” featured presentation of lectures by medical experts on prevention, symptoms and basic precautionary measures required by all to prevent the virus from entering the State.
Earlier in his presentation, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Chris Achi who is equally the vice-Chairman of the Ebonyi State Committee on Prevention of Corona virus, said that the health workers have been mandated to check the temperatures of people in addition to screening people in their homes.
Dr. Achi said that the training was organized to equip the health workers on basic information and knowledge on the epidemics stating “you are to take the campaign to churches, markets and other public places and institutions.
The training workshop had in attendance stakeholders in the health and medical sector, the Executive Secretary Ebonyi State Primary Health care Development Agency, Dr. James Nwali, Development Partners and youths.
Highlights of the training workshop was the distribution of hundreds of Hand Sanitizers and Infrared Thermometer to the trainees .
It would be recalled that the Ebonyi State Government had earlier shut down all tertiary, secondary and primary schools in the state , night clubs as preventive measures geared towards safeguarding the people.
The State Government had equally established the “Rapid Response Team” at the Treatment Center Unity Square Abakaliki where any returnee expatriate that has cough and difficulty in breathing should be reported .
