Commissioner for Health in Ebonyi State, Dr. Daniel Umezueike, has declared that a 50-bed Coronavirus isolation centre built by the state government.
The isolation centres have since commenced operation.
In the same vein, another 350-bed capacity located beside Lassa fever virology centre at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, (AE-FUTHA) is now 95 per cent completed.
Umezuruike made the disclosure on Thursday in an interactive session with journalists at the AE-FUTHA premises shortly after Governor Dave Umahi finished monitoring the project.
The commissioner noted that all the equipment have been provided for the 350-beded capacity Coronavirus isolation facility and would be installed in the next one week.
He disclosed that a total of 160 Coronavirus samples from the state have been tested and the results all came out negative.
Umezuruike added that another 60 samples from nearby states have also been tested.
He opined, “This complex you are seeing is the isolation/ treatment centre of infectious diseases precisely COVID-19 in Ebonyi State and this structure was started just three-four months ago when the disease was discovered in China.
“After seeing the way the disease was spreading Governor Umahi envisaging that one day this disease will get to every part of the world initiated the idea and started the preparation.
“He immediately started this structure and today we have gotten to 95 per cent completion. What is left is to put the finishing touches basically the fittings and the places will be good to go as an isolation ward.”
The commissioner continued, “The facility is a 300-bed facility isolation and all the equipment have also been provided ready to be installed, we also have another isolation ward in the unity square and it is a 50-beded space, we completed the 50-beded space.
“As at present, we don’t have any case of convid-19 in Ebonyi state and we have tested 160 samples from Ebonyi state and over 60 from nearby states.
“We don’t have the right to report their cases but all the ones we tested, tested negatives and we have done quite a lot to ensure that we don’t record any case of convid-19 in Ebonyi State.”
The also commissioner dispelled rumour that there was cholera outbreak in Ohaukkwu Local Government Area of the state in which about 10 persons reportedly died.

“What happened in Ngbo, Ohaukwu local government is that one woman living with the son died and they didn’t know the cause of death and they now brought her and buried her in her home town.
“After some days, they started having abdominal discomfort, vomiting and diarrhea.
“It started three days ago and two days ago, our team was there with officials from World Health Organisation (WHO, ) and other Development Partners.”
Dr. Umezueike emphasised that an investigation was carried out and it was discovered that it was actually diarrhea.
