COVID-19: 80% of calls received at call centre are hoax calls – Lagos health commissioner

Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said that 80 per cent of the calls received on the CORONA emergency lines were hoax calls from those he described as “irresponsible members of the society.”

Prof. Abayomi said this, on Monday, during a press conference in Lagos State.

He declared that most people call for fun, pranks or to pass insults to health workers, saying and this has been distracting the health workers in the management of Coronavirus outbreak in the state and nationwide.

He said 11 per cent of the calls were from people seeking information about the viral disease, 9 per cent wre from people feeling symptoms while 0.4 per cent of the calls were red flags.
