Governor David Umahi of Enonyi State has restated that no fewer than 700 returnees are currently being held at state’s isolation centre, located at the township stadium in Abakaliki, the state capital.
In the same vein, Governor Umahi has directed the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Awotinde Awoshola, and the Director of Department of State Services (DSS) to fish out the alleged cultists involved in the killing of two persons in Edda Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state.
The governor made the disclosure, in Abakaliki, on Wednesday, while briefing newsmen on the resolutions reached at the end of the state security Council meeting on COVID -19.
According to him, “700 returnees are being held at the Abakaliki stadium that served as isolation centre in the state.
Governor Umahi also announced that the state government has resolved to adjust the number of Isolation Centers in the state.
He continued, “Today Government is making deep adjustments, from Monday 11th 2020 all Development Centres will be activated as Holding Down Centres, any of our people that defy our pleas and enter the state will be held at the Isolation Centres.
“If the person tests positive, the person will be taken to the state Isolation center at the Stadium for more Medicare.
“Any person coming from outside will be housed at the Development Centres for 14 days at the centres they will be fed , after the 14 days of screening issued with Certificate of Activation and released.”
Governor Umahi also warned that the state government would sanction anyone that defies the directive on COVID -19 stating that, “There will be consequences for anyone who fail to do this work.”
He also directed the state’s Commissioner of Police and Director of the DSS, to fish out the killers of two persons in Edda at Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state.
“Do your investigation. Whatever is your investigation, the life that is lost is being politicized, I challenged the Police Commissioner that if you put your feet down we will solve this problem.”
Speaking against the backdrop of palliative to be distributed to the people, Umahi said that the state has received 1,800 bags of 3kg rice and three truck loads of rice from the Federal Government.
“On palliatives, we are in advanced stage , coming Sunday every indigent person will be gathered on Sunday at polling units with names gathered. it will be done on non party basis”
Contributing the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike, said that a total of 493 samples have been collected while 60 tests have been conducted at the Isolation Centers.
