Court remands man for killing father in Ondo

A 23-year-old barber, Victor Akinwa,  was on Monday ordered to be remanded by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, for allegedly killing his own father, Justus.

The suspect is standing trial for allegedly hitting his with a pestle in November 2021 at Idanre in the Idanre Local Government Area of the state, resulting in his death.

The police prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, enjoined the court to remand the defendant in a custodial centre, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions since the offences contravene sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Consequently, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, who presided over the case, ordered that the suspect be remanded in the Olokuta Custodial Centre, pending legal advice.

However, he adjourned the case till March 31, 2022, for mention.
