Court remands man for allegedly defiling minor in Lagos

 

One 28-year-old Babatunde Olawale was on Thursday, ordered remanded in custody for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl.

 

Olawale, who resides in Shogunle area of Lagos State, was charged before Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ikeja, presided over by Chief Magistrate E. Kubeinje.

 

According to the prosecutor, Insp John Iberedem, the suspect committed the offence in July at Oluwani Street, Ladipo area of Mushin, Lagos State.

Olawale was accused of forcefully having carnal knowledge of the 10-year-old victim several times, thereby contravening Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for any one found guilty of defiling a minor.

However, the Chief Magistrate did not take the defendant’s plea but ordered his remand in a Correctional facility in Lagos.

The matter was adjourned until October 15, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
