Couple arraigned for allegedly stealing N555,820m

 A couple, Oladeji Henry and Omotayo Henry were arraigned before an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos on Wednesday for allegedly stealing N555,820 million.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) arraigned the couple alongside their company, Built Global Concepts. They are facing a seven-count charge,  bordering on conspiracy to steal and stealing contrary to sections 411,280(2)(f),280(1)(b) and 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011.

They both pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences.

However, the EFCC prosecutor, Bilkisu Buhari, alleged that the defendants dishonestly converted to the use of Abiodun Semawon Henry the sum of money, belonging to one Julius Ekonorue and Smart Investors Club and others.

The charges read:  “That you Oladeji Henry, Omotayo Henry and Built Global Concepts Limited sometime on or about 2018 in Lagos within the Ikeja Judicial Division conspired amongst yourselves to dishonestly convert to the use of Abiodun Semawon Henry the total sum of N410,170 million property of Smart Investors Club.

“That you Oladeji Henry, Omotayo Henry and Built Global Concepts Limited sometime on or about 2018 in Lagos within the Ikeja judicial division conspired amongst yourselves to dishonestly convert to the use of Abiodun Semawon Henry the sum of 70 million property of Julius Ekonorue. 

“That you Oladeji Henry, Omotayo Henry and Built Global Concepts Limited sometime on or about 2018 in Lagos within the Ikeja judicial division conspired amongst yourselves to dishonestly convert to use of Abiodun Semawon Henry the sum of N15 million property of Adebola Omotosho.

“That you Oladeji Henry, Omotayo Henry and Built Global Concepts Limited sometime on or about the 5th of November 2018 in Lagos within the Ikeja judicial division conspired amongst yourselves to dishonestly convert to the use of Abiodun Semawon Henry the total sum of N21,300 million property of Teniola Reuben.”

In view of the not guilty plea of the defendants, the prosecutor subsequently requested for a trial date and also that the defendants  be remanded in the correctional facility.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel to the two defendants, Richard Oma Ahonaruogho, informed the court of  a pending bail application,  which was filed Wednesday morning because the prosecutor did not serve the defence until yesterday. 

After listening to both parties’ arguments, Justice Mojisola Dada in her ruling, remanded the defendants in Kirikiri correctional facility, pending hearing of the bail application.

The case was adjourned to the 9th of March, 2020 for the hearing of bail application.
