The council chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area in Lagos, Hon. (Mrs.) Bola Shobowale, and some of her loyalists, on Tuesday, allegedly jubilated following the death of Lagos House of Assembly member, Hon. Sobur Olawale Omititi.
Eye witnesses informed The Nigerian Xpress that there was wild jubilation at the secretariat of the council when the news of the death of Sobur, who was the Chairman, House Committee on Local government and Community Affairs, filtered into the council.
Upon receiving the news of the death of Sobur, the council boss, Hon. Shobowale, reportedly summoned leaders of the council including the cabinet members and the leaders of the Legislature.

When she broke the news to those present, they allegedly started jubilating, singing songs of victory over their ‘enemy’. The chairman was also heard allegedly raining curses on the late lawmaker for exposing her misdeeds to the media.
The jubilation was not unconnected with a report that the late Sobur had submitted before the House as the Chairman of the House Committee probing the finance of the council. He had recommended the suspension of the council boss based on her health issues which she has reportedly been battling with for over four months.
Late Sobur had recommended that Hon. Shobowale stepped aside for her deputy, to allow her to take adequate care of her ill health so that the running of the council would gain some speed.
The report had also accused her of alleged involvement in financial and executive recklessness.

During the audit conducted by the committee, it was discovered that whereas expenditures were made during the time Shobowale was away on medicals, there was no management or executive meeting that authorized such expenditures as there was no hand-over at all by the council boss.
Also the unilateral inclusion of one Wole Aina, who acts as the supervisor for works but was never on the list approved by the state government for appointments in the council in April 2022, was also queried during the audit.
