Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to implement the provision of the law on Centre for Cancer and Diseases Control which was passed by the 8th Assembly.
Obasa said this while reacting to members’ comments on Coronavirus, raised under Matter of Public Importance, by Hon. Hakeem Sokunle (Oshodi/Isolo 1) during plenary session, on Monday, March 2.
He, however, commended the governor and members of his cabinet for their prompt reaction in handling the Coronavirus case in the state.
According to him, “We should commend our state governor for his efforts on the matter (coronavirus).
“But, we should also call on him to implement the provision of the law on Centre for Cancer and Diseases Control which was passed in the 8th Assembly.”

He said implementing the Lagos State Institute for Cancer and Diseases Control of 2017 would enable the state to put in place health institutions that would be on ground before the outbreak of any disease.
He said such institutions would be prepared to battle diseases at all times.
He further urged the governor to reach out to different organisations in the state such as the NURTW, CDAs, CDCs, Local Government Councils, Markets Women and Men, Schools etc, to begin sensitisation campaigns on personal hygiene and necessary information that would curb the spread of the deadly virus.
The Speaker also said stopping large gathering of people in a place for now particularly, in churches, mosques and social parties, would not be too much of a sacrifice to make.
