A solid collaboration and contributions among Universities in Nigeria would be a good catalyst towards the desired aims towards achieving academic excellence in the country.
Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), made this assertion at the maiden edition of the Consortium Conference of Universities in Kwara State which were eight in number giving it the name; KU8.
According to him, the coming together of these universities was the source needed for the universities in the State to collectively record achievements that would foster production of immeasurable outputs.
His words; “If you want to go fast, go alone. But, if you want to go far, go together. The idea of synergy and partnership is definitely in sync with the visions of the proprietors to advance scholarship and promote development. It is the right way to go and I believe this initiative will have a multiplier effect on other universities in other states and places”.

As if in a unanimous situation, all other speakers at the event concurred with Oloyede. They included Mr. Chris Maiyaki, the Executive Secretary, National University Commission NUC, represented by Dr. Noel Saliu; Professor Musbau Akanji, His Royal Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, Dr. Adeyeye Enitan, represented by the Vice Chancellor of Ojaja University and LUBCON Oil chairman, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim.
The consortium were the member Universities which included the Kwara State University, Al-Hikmah University, Landmark University, Ojaja University (formerly Crown-Hill University), Summit University, Ahman Pategi University, and Thomas Adewumi University, Oko in the Kwara South forming the KU8.
While speaking, Engr Jani Ibrahim, KU8 should innovate conceptions that would foster university innovations and industry collaboration which would aid Nigeria’s economic recovery and bring universities into focus.

Also speaking, Professor Akanji said the collaboration of KU8 would foster funding opportunities, ease communication and uplift younger members through the churning out of individual’s strength.
The NUC Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki, represented by Dr. Noel Saliu, also reiterated that the KU8 if well managed, would increase the prowess of Nigerian universities internationally.
Also, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan, said “gone were the days of solo efforts, individuality and unhealthy competitions. The time has come to adopt a system approach in which all parts are interrelated, interconnected and interdependent with the input of one being the output of the other and vice-versa”.
