As the group stage of the money-spinning CAF Champions League gets underway next week, Nigerian football buff, Shuaib Gara Gombe, says Lobi Stars, who are flying the nation’s flag in the competition, will need a miracle to survive in Group C.
Lobi were last week drawn into what could pass as “group of death” where they are billed to face ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, Mamelodi Sundown of South Africa and Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.
Taking a look at the teams in the group, Gara Gombe in an email sent to The Nigerian Xpress Sports stated… “Lobi are finished.”

Gara Gombe stated further: “I know these teams that Lobi are going to face very well. I know how professional these teams are and I also know they are well motivated and organized. They may not have better players than Lobi but they are more organized and these are the factors that count.”
Gara Gombe was, however, quick in adding that one thing that would be going for the Nigerian flag bearers is the usual “fighting spirit” of every Nigerian team.
“Our teams usually fight like wounded lions to get something out of nothing. I wish Lobi luck…And I pray for a miracle as they go into the group stage.”
Lobi are billed to start the group stage campaign with a home game against Sundown at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu. The Ortom boys got into the group stage after beating Kenyan side Gor Mahia via away goals rule after a 3-3 aggregate scoreline.
Nigeria’s other team in the continent, Rangers International of Enugu would face Bantu FC of Lesotho in the last hurdle of the race to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
