A commercial bus plunged into a river in Ondo State on Sunday, resulting in the death of five people, including a newly married man.
Several other people were reportedly injured in the accident which occurred at the rocky Owena river, about 10 kilometers to Akure, the state capital.
The driver of the 18-seater bus with registration number AAA 859 XC, was said to have lost control of the vehicle due to speeding though it was also raining at the time.
Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and some good samaritans were seen at the scene of the accident and had recovered some dead bodies and rescued some of the injured passengers.
One of the deceased was a newly wedded man simply identified as Dewale, who was traveling to Akure with his spouse for their traditional marriage.
Spokesman of the FRSC in Ondo, Abiola Fadumo, confirmed the incident, adding that they sent a rescue team from Ondo town Unit Command and Zebra Unit in Akure.
According to him, the injured people were sent to the State Specialist Hospital in Akure for treatment.
