A former presidential candidate, Kingsley Moghalu said President Muhammadu Buhari has decided to dialogue with members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the secessionist group in the South-East as a way to de-escalating the security situation in the region.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said this was one of his recommendations to the president in order to end the tensed security situation in the region.

“I’m encouraged that President @MBuhari has reportedly decided to take embrace dialogue on the secessionist agitations and the security situation in the Southeast. This was one of my five recommendations when I asked him to set up a Truth &Reconciliation Commission and make May 30,” he said on Twitter on Monday.

He stated that there are five recommendations he made to Buhari, which include asking him to inaugurate a Truth and Reconciliation Commission that would facilitate a dialogue between the Presidency and the secessionist groups in the South-East.

He also said he asked the president to declare May 30 a public holiday to remember millions who died during the Nigerian civil war.
