Nigeria-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua, lost his boxing titles to Ukrainian, Usyk due to his association with President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians say on social media.
According to them, the day boxer prostrated for Buhari in London was the day his defeat began.
They say Buhari, whose government has performed abysmally in the economy, security and corruption, is synonymous with failure.
Joshua visited Buhari in London recently where he presented the president with his title belts.
The online banter has packed over 7,000 tweets on the microblogging site, Twitter and several posts on Facebook.
IPOB activist, Simon Ekpa said Joshua lost because of his meeting with Buhari.
“I told Anthony Joshua for meeting a man called Buhari, he will start losing fight. Now Anthony Joshua loses the heavyweight title to Oleksandr Usyk. Where are the village people who introduced him to the Presidency in London, have you seen it? It is all your fault, we warned you,” he said.
“Since the day’s AJ was brought to prostrate before Buhari, his boxing career has never been the same again,” one social media used said.
“Anthony Jọshụa lost his WBA, IBF & WBO heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk with a unanimous decision. We warned him to stay completely away from Buhari, but he won’t listen, now look at. Buhari agbagọ Antho uchu, * one Afam said on Twitter.
Joshua lost his boxing titles to Usyk in a unanimous decision on Saturday night in a fight that left him with a broken eye socket.
