Buhari: EndSARS protesters wanted to remove me from office

President Muhammadu Buhari revealed in an interview on television aired on Thursday that EndSARS protesters wanted to remove him from office.

Off the tangent, Buhari was answering a question on foreign direct investment and then veered off to talk on the EndSARS protest which rocked Nigeria in 2020.

Nigerians took a swipe at the president for thinking that the protest was about removing him from office.

“To some extent, I can see why he thought the #EndSARS protest was organized to remove him from office.

They got into office on the back of staged protests, so to them a protest is not the legitimate cry of people, it’s propaganda…

That’s where we are as a country,” Aproko Doctor said.

Omoyele Sowore blamed Buhari for ordering soldiers to shoot at protesters in Lekki and elsewhere as the protest raged in Nigeria.

“This was the reason he unleashed soldiers on #Endsars protesters, @MBuhari only concern is how to kill young people because he believed that #Endsars protesters wanted to iremove him from office. Well, now everyone is tired and we are saying #Buharimustgo #June12protest,” Sowore said.

Dipo Awojide, a social media influencer, told Buhari that the protest was not about removing him but about police brutality in the country.

“President Buhari, #EndSars wasn’t about removing you from office. It was a protest against police brutality and injustice. It was never about regime change,” Awojide said.
