The police have detained Social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM.
This was disclosed by human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, in a post on social media platform X on Thursday night.
He said VDM was detained after honouring a police invitation.
Adeyanju wrote on X: “Our client, VDM has been detained after honouring police invitation just like yesterday.
“VDM who has been consistent in saying the Nigerian Police are our friends even when we all know they are not.”
VDM had donned a police uniform, and jokingly to be a “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division.”
The police had described VDM’s use of police uniform as inappropriate and launched an investigation into the matter.
VDM on Thursday, shared an apology video, regretting his action in wearing an attire that looked like police uniform. He advised Nigerians to obtain proper permission before wearing police uniforms to prevent misunderstandings or potential legal troubles.
VeryDarkMan stated: “Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs.”
“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in anyway and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria police force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.”
