Nigerians want Pastor Poju Oyemade, Senior Pastor of Covenant Christian Centre and convener of The Platform, to withdraw the invitation of Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai to the proramme scheduled for May 1.
They say el-Rufai is anti-Christian and as such is not suited for such a platform, being a hardline Muslim.
“Dear Pastot Poju,
We are annoyed and disgusted! We are insulted, that you would bring an ethnic jingoist into such a prestigious gathering. Especially one who has slandered the Christian faith. We will have NOTHING to do with you till the evil man is gone,” @cremechic11 said on Twitter.
Others said el-Rufai’s actions, especially concerning the killings in Southern Kaduna is questionable.
Others said the governor’s invitation should not be withdrawn as the programme affords people the opportunity to hear diverse opinions.
In August last year, the Nigerian Bar Association withdrew the invitation el-Rufai after so much pressure from the public.
Some lawyers had threatened to withdraw from the event if El-Rufai was present at the conference.
They faulted the NBA for inviting the governor, citing his alleged poor human rights record and his inability to stop the killings in his state, particularly in Southern Kaduna.
NBA distanced itself from the divisive Elrufai, for GOOD REASON. Apart from superintending the killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna, & his “body bags” statement, El-Rufai have no legitimacy being among a congregation of brethrens. We are unequally yoked!!#BoycottThePlatform

Elrufai accused Christians of sponsoring Boko Haram. Words he is yet to recant.
There is no reason to call him into the congregation of primarily Christians to speak. He has no legitimacy. #BoycottThePlatform

How can a man who arrogantly removed a Christian deputy and replaced him with a Muslim deputy be invited to a Christian program to speak? #BoycottThePlatform

Nasir El-Rufai is not morally fit to stand on the podium where Christians are gathered. Not after denying Southern Kaduna Christians, the deputy governor’s position. @pastorpoju, we are disappointed. #BoycottThePlatform
