No fewer than seven people were feared killed in an attack on some communities in Miango chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, following an attack by unidentified gunmen.
Also, 250 houses were reportedly razed and over 40 farmlands destroyed in the attack, a statement by the Iregwe Development Association (IDA) in Jos, the state capital, said.
The statement, which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Davidson Malison,added that the assailants wounded several other people in addition to destroying more than 40 farmlands in the area.
“The attack, which lasted for over four hours unhindered, left over 250 houses razed down in Zanwra, Nche-Tahu, Rikwe-Rishe A and B, Ri-Dogo, Nchu-Nzhwa all in Jebbu-Miango communities of Miango chiefdom,” the statement said.
“Seven people were killed, while several others were injured and are receiving treatment at undisclosed hospitals.
“Over 40 farmlands with a variety of crops were completely destroyed and several household items and domestic animals were carted away.”
Malison appealed to government and security operatives to do more to secure the lives and property of the people.
Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Ubah Ogaba, confirmed the attack, adding that the command had since deployed its personnel to the area to ensure law and order.
Ogaba said: “The police are on top of the situation; more personnel have been deployed to the area. Investigation is also ongoing to bring the perpetrators to book.”
