Daredevil armed robbers have struck at a bank and a police station at Isanlu in Kogi State, killing nine people, eight policemen and one civilian.
The state Police Public Relations Officer William Aya, on Friday confirmed the attack and number of casualties in the robbery incident, saying the attack on Thursday evening was perpetrated by 25 robbers.
He said: “During the incident, eight police officers lost their lives among which were three women police officers while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
“The injured have been taken to a public hospital for treatment while the bodies were deposited in a morgue.”
Aya further revealed that a team of police personnel, comprising Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)and Counter Terrorism Unit, has been deployed to the town to investigate the incident.
The governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, urged the police to ensure that the criminals ate arrested, vowing to strengthen the security network of the area and ensure safety of the people.
