Bank robbery, car-snatching kingpins arrested, firearms recovered

Personnel of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected bank robbery and a car-snatching kingpins, and recovered some firearms from them.

The suspected car-snatching kingpin, Francis Abubakar, was arrested by the anti-crime patrol team of the Satellite Police Station, while he and his gang members attempted to snatch a Peugeot 307 car at the Mosalasi, Mile 2 area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that a locally-made shotgun was recovered from Abubakar and that the suspect had been handed over to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

Similarly, a patrol team from the Ejigbo Police Station arrested a bank robbery kingpin after his gang robbed a lady at the Access Bank along the Egbe Road in the Ejigbo area of the state.

According to Elkana, the patrol team received a distressed call that the gang members were on a motorcycle and were operating outside the bank premises.

Elkana, who noted that the gang members engaged the police in a gun battle, said they were eventually overpowered and their ring leader was arrested, while a Brownie pistol with live ammunition was recovered from him.
