Bandits operating in Zamfara State have sent a letter to the Christian community in the state to close churches or risk being attacked in a ferocious way.
Of course, the Zamfara State Police Command is not standing idly by over the bandits’ threat. It has assured residents, especially Christians in the state that “We are on top of the threat.”
Spokesperson for the Police Command, DSP Mohammed Shehu, said that security agents knew about the letter.

To show its readiness for the threat, Commissioner of Police in the state has reportedly invited the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state to discuss security measures around the churches.
According to Mr. Shehu, “Yes, I can confirm that it’s true. A threat letter was sent to the Christians in Zamfara State to stop worship and to close churches.
“Actually the Police informed the Christian leaders about the threat.”
Shehu maintained that a special squad has been created by the police boss to patrol and protect worshippers, especially on Sundays.

“Additionally, plain-clothes personnel have been deployed for intelligence gathering and to unravel those behind the threat letter,” he said.
On Sunday, a Christian leader, who talked on state of anonymity, had requested prayers from Christians all throughout the world in regard to their situation in Zamfara and different parts of northern Nigeria.
He said, “Let’s pray for Christians in Northern Nigeria, especially in Zamfara State as we are issued a three-year ultimatum to close all churches in the state.”
