Former vice president and presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has replied President Muhammad Buhari over his Independence Day broadcast.

Buhari had blamed former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umar Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan for the nation’s dwindling fortunes.

“Those in the previous governments from 1999 – 2015 who presided over the near destruction of the country have now the impudence to attempt to criticize our efforts.

Nigeria’s presidents since 1999 are Olusegun Obasanjo (1999 to 2007), late Umaru Yar’Adua (2007 to 2010), and Goodluck Jonathan (2010 to 2015).

Atiku, in a tweet, on Friday told Buhari that Nigeria witnessed its best times during Obasanjo’s era.

“Between 1999 and 2007, Nigeria paid off her entire foreign debt while maintaining an unprecedented 6% annual GDP growth. Those were periods of national restoration, and I am very proud of the work President Obasanjo and I did for this nation we care so much for. Facts don’t lie,” Atiku said.

Obasanjo, penultimate week, said Nigeria is fast becoming a failed state and asked Buhari to resign.

Buhari had drawn flacks from Nigerians after his broadcast and social media message when he said that Nigerians cannot buy petroleum products lower than what Saudi Arabians do.

Nigerians disagreed with the president drawing his attention to the disparity between the minimum wages of both countries.
